Job Description

  • Internship subject: Study of state of the art Advanced Longitudinal Control methods
  • Internship tutor: Alice Couprie, R&D Engineer

The goal of this internship is to study advanced methods for the longitudinal control of an autonomous vehicle. Longitudinal control consists in generating a desired engine/brake torque from a reference speed or position. The control method has to be robust to model uncertainties (mass, delays, actuator dynamics), and to disturbances (road grade, aerodynamic forces).

This internship will consist of different phases:

  • Development of the vehicle longitudinal model (matlab/simulink and python).
  • State of the art on longitudinal control, this can include: - Nonlinear methods (gain scheduling, adaptive control, sliding mode, Lyapunov approaches…) - Robust control (Hinf synthesis, crone…)
  • Implementation of several methods and evaluation of their robustness to disturbances and model uncertainties, stability, safety and comfort, complexity of implementation, real time capabilities.
  • Depending on the progress, focus on combined longitudinal and steering control methods for high speed scenarios.
  • Test promising methods on python simulator and/or develop C++ prototype to be tested on EasyMile testbench.

We are looking for:

  • Final year internship
  • Modeling of dynamic systems, identification methods
  • Control theory (linear and nonlinear control, discrete control, advanced control techniques)
  • First experience with Matlab/Simulink
  • Python
  • C++ is a plus
