Job Description

  • Duration: 6 months (starting from March 2021)
  • Location: Toulouse, France
  • Department: R&D - Navigation
  • Internship subject: Assess alternative methods for high level behaviour management
  • Internship tutor: Arnaud Degroote, R&D Engineer

A common approach for managing high-level behavior of autonomous vehicles (e.g. stop, open doors, then departs) is to use state machines. The goal of the internship is to explore other approaches that exist in the litterature:

  • Decision trees
  • Behavior trees
  • Symbolic planning.

  • In a first phase of the internship, the intern should do a bibliographic review of these different methods, and propose a comprehensive review.

  • Based on the bibliographic review, the candidate will develop a replacement for some part of our behavior level. Then, he should evaluate and compare the resulting solution with regard to the existing solution, in term of reactiveness, correctness, expressivity, modularity and extensibility.

  • Depending on the progress of the candidate and the initial result, it would be possible to either explore other methods, or to go deeper into the integration of the initial proposition.
